Mongolia joined the Chemical Weapons Convention in 1995 and established the National Authority to implement the CWC in accordance with the 7th provision. Up to 2001 the National Authority was under the Ministry of Environment and then the responsibility was transferred to the Ministry of Defense. The main implementing body within the Ministry is the General Staff of the Armed forces, its Chemical department in particular.

Mongolia cooperates with the OPCW in many ways, such as organizing seminars and workshops in Mongolia, training personnel at OPCW courses, attending CSP and other OPCW important events, offering assistance to other State Parties.
